Use GIMP to remove blemishes and improve skin appearance

 

  1. Open photo in GIMP. (sample images from Flickr)
  2. Zoom using the zoom percentage at the bottom of the image window.
  3. Select the Heal tool. 
  4. Hold down Control and click next to a blemish. Release Control and click the blemish. Repeat for other blemishes.
  5. For larger problem area, select the Blur tool.  Click and drag across the photo. 

 

"Barbara Walters Effect"

 

  1. Right-click the Layer and select Duplicate. Change the new layer's Mode to Overlay or Addition. Adjust Opacity to ~50%. 
  2. Click the Filters menu and choose Gaussian Blur. Set the Blur Radius to 12 and click OK.
  3. Right-click the top layer in the Layer palette and choose Merge Down.
